Hi all

I'm new to this (although not new to mechanical renovations). :-)

I have acquired a Webb lawnmower. Its a sit on type and i have attached pictures of it here. I am trying to find out about the model and yea so I can order spares and get stuff done, so would be very grateful if anyone can help with that.

Its now stripped ready for refinishing of parts, so as i put it back together I may need some advice particularly on all the spring mechanisms around the carb :-)Main mower without grass box

What you have there is a Webb 24 (early belt driven model) that has been re-engined - possibly with a Kawasaki? So the immediate answer to your question  will rely on an engine manual and not with a Webb one. However at some point a Webb manual will be useful.

The belt drive Webb 24 was, in my opinion, an underated  machine, not because it was belt drive per se, but because many people , including those in the trade did not understand and maintain correct belt adjustment. Even one of the operator's manuals supplied with new machines, had a misleading illustration which, if followed would reduce belt life!

Hello,

Firstly the Model would be basically a Webb 24",  the serial number and type would be denoted by a shiny silver sticker on the offside frame. (sometimes these peel off)  Like the one I attach below, but this is for a Wizard model.

The Webb 24" was made from the late 1960's till the 1980's.   Not a great deviation in design change over the 25 years of production.

Norton-Villiers F15,  Aspera, Briggs & Stratton engines, etc... fitted, I note  your one has a retrofit Robin or similar Japanese made engine.

Grass boxes were steel, then late ones plastic.    Trailing seats had Bicycle type (as yours in the photo) then Bostrom Baltic seats.

There is quite a few threads of useful info. on the Webb 24" on this Forum.

Some basic  info of this Birmingham based company online, I note; Mowers are being produced today sporting the Webb name, but in no direct relation to the original company, so new parts, unless old stock are unobtainable. 

I remember 25 years ago some mail order trade companies, like Martley Power did the pinion drive gear and wheel.

But the machine is very simple and robust, apart from bearings and cutter parts, nothing really to go wrong.

Do you have a grass box? I might have one of the black rubber/plastic ones, I think 24".

Hi everyone, thank you so much for your help its much appreciated!

The unit has a 5hp suzuki motor on it and the grass box is indeed steel (its being re-welded at the moment.

Thank you especially for the link to manual that will be helpful :-)

My next ask may be a bit tricky. The rubber on the main roller is quite badly damaged does anyone know of a solution for this?

A cheaper DIY alternative:- On our Webb 24" the rubber had come away from the steel roller, so we used contact adhesive to re-bond  it on.

I note on the Webb 24"  the rubber is ribbed, but where the footbrake pad goes down it is smooth.
