Restoring plastic Webb badge

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.

I'm restoring a Webb 14" mower. Fortunately all the original plastic parts are still there.

The badge has a scratched surface and I would like to clean it up. Some plastics (acylic/perspex) you can sand smooth and then re-gloss the surface with a flame. if you try that on the wrong type of plastic you char the surface and ruin it.

Does anyone have experience (good or bad!) about cleaning these?

Yes, heat can have irreversible damaging results, last resort or not to resort to at all abd rather leave looking a bit rough.

Meguiars plastic restorer is designed for the job, but have had equal results with Solvol metal polish.

Also had very good results with polishing wheels on the bench grinder, medium mop and correct resign.

I would go least aggressive to start and a bit of gentle polishing with some Solvol and a rag

Thanks for the tips. The other point is that a shiny new look would be out of place on an old mower so perhaps I should just clean rather than polish.

If Solvol proves to be too aggressive , try Brasso or even a smokers toothpaste .  May be worth looking at YouTube  vids for restoring crazed plastic headlight covers and see what is recommended for the final polish . Emphasis on final as some of the initial stages can be far too aggressive for your job.
