Removing cylinder from Ransomes hand mower?
Hello,
On Friday I got my first Ransomes hand mower. I have started to disassemble it to clean out hardened grease and dirt but am stuck at removing the cylinder. I removed the pin type thing that holds a cover over the bearing assembly, however I cannot find a way to get the bearing assembly out so that I can take the cylinder out. Can anybody offer some pointers for this? I don't want to do anything to damage this mower. I was tempted to knock it a few times with a hammer and to stuff some pliers into the bearing assembly to try yank them out. Fortunately I was able to compose myself and post here for advice.
I have experience restoring hand mowers, the majority of which have been Masport and a piece of cake to disassemble, nothing like the setup of this Ransomes mower.
I haven't decided whether I will preserve or restore the mower yet. With the exception of the cylinder, the rest of the mower still has a lot of the original paint work, I think maybe 70% or more.
Thank you

Thanks for the reply, I'll search for that thread. I have no idea the model, the stickers are in poor condition. I'll check it out for some serial numbers or the like, so I can try get as much info as possible about it.

After closer inspection I reached the conclusion there were no other tricks to disassembling the mower, so I soaked it with some degreaser and gave it some light taps with a hammer, then the cylinder was removed.
Thanks for all the help so far. I'll be starting another thread soon.
Ransomes Cutting Cylinder
Hi,
I'm afraid I can't offer any practical advice as I'm about as mechanically competent as a pig in boxing gloves, but there is a thread in the technical forum on removing the cylinder from a Ransomes Anglia. Maybe this will be of some use? It does include some photos.
By the way, what model is your new project?
Good luck,
Joe
