Ransomes 20" Auto-Certes mk2 lawn mower

Hi all. I've just joined the forum after getting interested in old lawn mowers. My current lawn mower is a very old  Atco 35 s which is back in favour after trying a modern petrol rotary mower and being very disappointed.

I recently aquired a Ransomes 20" Auto-Certes mk2 lawn mower. Unfortunately I have no manual so I'm not aware of any other specs other than what I can see. It's running fine but I'd like to do an oil change. Will have a full service done in the near future but due to the fact it's not been used for a couple of years I think an oil change is a priority. Does anyone know the oil capacity of the engine please. Photo attached, any info on specs would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

See also my ongoing thread on F12s, oil and general maintainance.

On the off chance you're not really "in" to lawnmowers, I'll gently remind you that a Certes is intended for removing 1/32" of an inch from 1/16" high grass, which it will do beautifully.

So if your lawn is wonderful, a Certes is an excellent choice.

I have a 14" hand propelled Certes, but my lawn has never been even close to flat-and-low enough to use it. Even my 18" Marquis is at the top of its height adjustment.

Thanks for that "Bugbear ".

I've not had much spare time recently but I'm hoping to get a few hours soon to get to grips with the auto certes. Just wish I had a manual, I can get it started but the drive just isn't running right. When I turn the revs up it just runs away with me ala Frank Spencer. Think I'll probably have to get someone who knows about these machines to have a look and give it a good service and sort out. Must admit the small amount of grass cutting I've actually done has given an excellent finish.

Where would I find your mentioned thread.
