leaking carb - washer or something else

Enter a word or two to search the forum section and click the Search Forum button.

Hi,

I went to start my Atco 14 light 47 mower today and 2 stroke seeped out everywhere from the carb. Not sure if this is the washers or if I assembled it correctly from cleaning it out over the winter. i think it must be the washers however, lots of fuel was also seeping out of the primer button?

Please can someone help? Do these symptoms sound like the washers have gone, i probably need some new washers as they look shot anyway but i'm more concerned about the fuel streaming from the the primer button and around the joint with the base section of the carb. Can anyone advise on the correct size and spec for a full washer replacement on the carb please and if this sounds like something else.

Thanks,

Andy

Assuming correct assembly, the most likely cause is an imperfect seal between the fuel float needle and it’s seat. May be so slight that it is not noticeable while the engine is running. Cause; worn needle and or seat, leaking float, fine debris preventing the needle and seat closing completely.

Moral is,  when finishing your mowing session, turn the fuel off and let the engine use up the fuel in the system.

Thanks Wristpin but not much help though. I always turn off the fuel and let the engine use up the fuel in the system. To be clear and perhaps i used too many words in my initial post so i have summarised below;

  1. Washers / Gasket replacements for the Acto 14 light carb - where can i get replacement for these, in particular the washer / gasket for the fuel line into the carb?
  2. Leaking carb from primer button, what can i do to stop the leak and or fix the carb what do i need to do to fix this?

Thanks

Primer button - presumably what is more usually referred to as the “tickler” . Press it down to to depress the float to raise the fuel level for a cold start. If fuel is flooding from there without it being pressed you almost certainly have a float valve that for whatever reason is not sealing . With a correctly sealing valve and the correct fuel level in the float chamber the “ at rest” fuel level should be below where it can seep out.

George at Villiers Parts does fibre washers in the correct imperial sizes - have a look on his website
