Atco Commodore B12 cylinder bearing info
Evening
I am part way through a light refurb of a B12 - engine now works OK after a valve grind and carb in the ultrasonic. I have now pulled the side off to get the cylinder ground and the bearings (naturally) need a little tlc. See pics...
So; the bearing blocks have cleaned up OK and the bearings will suffice as it wont be doing a lot of work. The question is should there be any felt washers or similar as a seal of sorts as there may have been some bits in one side when i stripped it but nothing to really confirm. I have found the B14,17 and 20 manual but the B12 is quite different and has a single clutch for roller drive only and other differences.
The flip cap oilers suggest oil as the lubricant - is this the case; i was tempted to grease them on reassembly but that would make the oilers redundant.
Any input gratefully received - this is my first cylinder machine to tinker with; if i get on OK i will look for something larger as my other mower is a Hayter rotary with a much larger width.

Thank you for the reply
Thank you for the reply Wristpin.
You must have a huge archive of manuals, thank you for sharing.

Everything Wristpin said is
Everything Wristpin said is correct, the only thing he didn't tell you, your Atco B12 is just a Suffolk Super Colt painted Atco green and with different handles/fuel tank. If I remember correctly, they cost about £25 more than the Suffolk.
Good info thanks Hortimech.

There's a felt seal (16) between each bearing carrier block and the chassis but the bearing itself only has a steel seal on each cone 18 & 21. Make sure that you refit the races the right way round (as per the one in your image) - we would often find them the wrong way round so that the cone would be rubbing on the ball carrier rather than on the balls.. I would grease the races on initial assembly, if nothing else it helps stick them into the cups and aids assembly, and then periodically oil via the oilers during use.
