I have an 11” Ransomes The Lion complete with front delivery plate and Grassbox. The Grassbox is a completely different colour to the main mower which is dark green and the box a lighter, brighter green. I have already established that JP used different colour tones for their grass boxes compared to the main mower especially the JP Minor. The Lion Grassbox is clearly original to the mower and unrestored ie no change of paint colour. Can anyone please tell me whether this was normal practice for Ransomes as it was for JP and if so why was it done. Thanks

Interesting, perhaps check date on cutting cylinder,  I have had Lions with similar colour to your mower 'dark green' with wooden box also dark green & have a lion from mid 1920's with all metal box. Would query if it is the original box with you mower?

Thanks Clive I’ll have a look at the dates. Which model do you suggest the box came from ? Does this mean two tone mowers were not made by Ransomes ? Thanks
